It’s funny to think about the fact that Relax Gaming never really wanted their own progressive jackpot system. However, now that it’s a reality they hardly seem very hesitant about it anymore. They keep churning out new installments in an impressive tempo, be that remakes or brand new additions. Dream Drop Diamonds is a case of the latter, and it comes with a posh luxury theme that holds nothing back.

Everything from the jet ski to the private jet is painted with a golden color, and the 5x5 grid is set against a backdrop displaying a jacuzzi on a private island. The spin pace is excellent, which makes the gameplay quite enjoyable with all the cascades and potential diamond prizes up to 1,000x. The bonus round is decent as well, but the main attraction will always be the Dream Drop Jackpot feature in this series.

The golden luxury items are the premium symbols, and they pay between 0.6 and 1.5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. You don’t get any wild symbols in the base game, but they appear in the bonus round to step in for pay symbols to help complete wins.

Winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic, which gives you indefinite extra wins per spin as long as you keep winning.

Diamond symbols are collected during base game play, and they trigger a cascade when removed. Each diamond is added to the prize ladder seen on the left, and you need 5 diamonds to win the lowest possible prize of 5x your stake. If you manage to collect 30+ diamonds in a single cascading sequence, you win the top prize of 1,000x your stake. Everything resets between paid spins.

You trigger the Bonus Round with 9 free spins when 3 scatters land anywhere in view, and you also get +1 free spin on top of that for each additional triggering scatter above the minimum of 3. Each diamond symbol you land awards +1 extra spin, as well as increasing the diamond prize multiplier by +1.

It can go as high as x10 at the most, and each collected diamond leaves a wild symbol behind. When the multiplier is maxed out, you still get +1 extra spin. The diamond prize ladder never resets in the bonus round.

You get the Jackpot Spins feature at random times as usual, and you need the DD symbol on each of the 5 reels on the special 5x5 grid to get to the Dream Drop Jackpot Game. The feature plays out on a 5x5 grid as well, and DD symbols land to fill horizontal positions that correspond to the different jackpots. The feature goes on as long as new DD symbols land, and they always drop to the lowest possible position as blanks are removed.

You win the highest value jackpot row that’s been filled, and the Rapid, Midi, Maxi, Major and Mega Jackpots start at €1, €5, €100, €25,000 and €500,000, respectively. These are all progressive jackpots, and the Mega Jackpot will eventually reach a €10,000,000 cap.

Review Summary

First of all, we were highly impressed by the pace of the cascading feature, and it gives the gameplay this oddly satisfying quality that many developers seem clueless about.

You don’t even need to double click with the turbo switched on, as it’s a joy to watch the symbols explode to be replaced. The luxury theme is not really our favorite though, and golden cars, yachts and private planes seem a tad over the top.

The diamond collect prizes could perhaps have been higher, but what you really want is the diamond drop jackpots anyway. The bonus round caps the diamond collection prizes at 10x, but you then get a prize every time a diamond appears. The jackpot chase isn’t cheap however, as 12 percentage points of the RTP goes to feed the progressives. This leaves you with a 93.98 % RTP overall, and a 81.98 % RTP outside of the jackpots.
