Given the popularity of the Book of … genre, it’s a bit strange that Slingo Originals have waited so long before they finally launched their slot/bingo hybrid take on the favored mechanic. Needless to say, they went with the classic ancient egypt style visual presentation, and they’ve not taken any innovative chances with the bonus round either.

As usual, you move up the slingo bonus ladder by completing lines in all directions, and anything below 8 slingos will only award smaller cash prizes. The bonus round comes with a higher tier expanding symbol the more slingos you get, but you can also trigger the feature directly by landing scatters on the regular 5x1 slingo reel.

The slingo game comes with a pretty standard set of special symbol features. Regular wilds allows you to mark off any position on the above column, while the Super Wild allows you to mark off any position on the whole grid.

The best strategy is to always mark off positions that either give you a slingo directly, get you closer to a slingo, or positions that can generate more than one slingo down the line (corners and the center position). Indefinite extra spins can be purchased for an individually calculated price, after your initial 11 spins are finished.

You can also land free spins symbols on the 5x1 reels, and this gives you +1 extra spin on top of the 11 you get by default. The ‘X’ is a blocker symbol, and it does nothing but take up valuable space on the reel. Finally, you have the Book scatter symbol, and at least 3 of these on the same spin trigger the bonus round as follows:

All bonus round tiers come with 10 free spins, but the special expanding symbol increases in value the higher you go. 8 slingos gives you the lowest value premium symbol as the expanding symbol, while a full house awards the top paying Eye of Horus symbol as the expanding symbol.

We almost wonder what took them so long, as a ‘Book of’ mechanic slot/bingo hybrid was bound to happen sooner or later. Unlike most slingo games, you can actually trigger the bonus round directly from the main game here, without even getting a single slingo first. However, you will need at least 8 slingos to get the lowest tier bonus round, which is pretty hard with no paid extra spins.

The question is, will players prefer this to a regular ‘Book slot’, not least since the top single spin payout is 10x less than the usual 5,000x your stake. Most of the time you will hardly get a slingo or 2 before you need to pay for extra spins. Granted, these are not too costly at first, but when you close in on the 8 slingo bonus round trigger, you will pay around 10-14 times your original stake per spin. Not exactly cheap, only to get a bonus round with a low to medium paying expanding symbol.
