The fairy tale story of Jack and the Beanstalk is a popular one in the world of online slots, and it has been depicted in different ways many times already. Iron Dog Studio adds another one to the pile with Megaways Jack and The Magic Beans, and it’s a follow-up to their previous Megaways Jack. The visual presentation has gone through somewhat of an overhaul, but the math model looks pretty similar (which isn’t a bad thing at all).

You don’t get to climb any beanstalks in this release, however, but the pre bonus round game is all about watering them to make them grow as tall as possible. The taller they grow, the more lucrative your bonus round potentially becomes, and the special Harp symbol awards 6 different modifiers during the feature as well. Golden Egg Wilds can appear anywhere to step in for pay symbols to help complete wins, and wilds hold no value of their own in this game. Winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic, and replaced by new and/or existing symbols dropping down from above.

You can land the Special Harp Symbol in all stages of the game, and in the base game it awards a guaranteed win with or without wilds involved. In the bonus round, the Harp symbol triggers one of the following modifiers:

You need 4 scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and scatters can land on reels 2 to 5 only. A beanstalk pre-game determines the setup of your bonus round, including the number of free spins you get. Here’s what you can expect:

Review Summary

It doesn’t take that much to make a Megaways title stick out, and too many developers tend to churn out the standard Bonanza copycats instead of doing something unique. Iron Dog is not such a studio, however, at least not in this particular case, as Megaways Jack and The Magic Beans comes across as both original and entertaining. The pace is excellent all the way, and the wooden tiles explode in a way that’s satisfying to behold.

We wish the Harp symbol would come with more varied modifier action also in the base game, but at least it gives you a guaranteed win. It’s fun to see what kind of extras you get to bring with you into the bonus round each time, but it seemed hard to get more than one maxed out locked reel for some reason.

The starting multiplier was usually more generously distributed, and we have no complaints about the 25,000x potential. Overall, this is a highly playable and fun Megaways release that’s well worth a closer look.
