The Great Stick-Up Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

The Great Stick-Up is a volatile western-style crime slot from Pragmatic Play, and it plays out on 5x3 reels with 20 paylines. The high-value wild is the only help you get in the base game, and the bonus round comes with a progressive sticky mystery symbol upgrade system. The max win is hard-capped at 5,000x your stake, and you can check our full review below the free demo game.

The Great Stick-Up Review

The Great Stick-Up is supposedly playing out in a small midwest town in the 1960s version of the USA, and there is a hint of steampunk to the shady-looking characters on the 5x3 grid. They didn’t really have tattoos and ear/noserings like this in the 60’s, at least as far as we can gather, and it would certainly stick out in a redneck okie town like this. The visual presentation is well-done though, but the jazzy soundtrack seems a bit misplaced.

The sharply dressed dude with a pipe is supposedly the detective that’s chasing this pack of criminals, and he appears as the wild symbol in the game. The base game is surprisingly stripped from features, so you’re basically grinding along until the bonus round triggers. The sticky mystery symbol upgrade system is an okay extra, but it’s not really pulse-raising most of the time. Overall, the game kinda falls flat compared to what you expect at first glance.

The Great Stick-Up Slot Features

The symbols pay between 1 and 50 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, with the 4 gangsters as the top-tier symbols with a female lead. The wild symbol can land on all 5 reels, and it steps in for regular pay symbols to help complete wins.

The Great Stick-Up Slot Gameplay

The wild is also the most valuable symbol in the game, awarding 75x your stake for 5 on a payline.

The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3, 4 or 5 red siren scatters anywhere in view, and this pays 2x, 10x or 100x your stake up front. You’ll then be awarded 7 free spins, and the feature comes with sticky mystery symbols that remain in place for the duration of the bonus round. Each mystery symbol will reveal the same symbol, starting from the lowest tier in the paytable.

Overlay sheriff badge icons can be attached to regular pay symbols, and the current mystery symbol is upgraded to the next tier whenever 2 are collected. You can follow the progress in the “wanted” jail box on the right-hand side. You also get +1 extra free spin per mystery symbol tier upgrade, and this feature doesn’t trigger anymore if you manage to get to the top-tier symbol.

Review Summary

Both the title and the splash screen gave us perhaps too lofty expectations about this release, as it boils down to a pretty typical Pragmatic Play installment. The visuals are solid, but the base game is about as dry as the dusty main road in the midwest town where the supposed stick-up is taking place. It’s hard to see what’s so ‘great’ about it in that sense, although 1,000x can be landed from a single spin (or 1,500x in the unlikely event that you fill the screen with wilds).

You need the bonus round to truly do damage in other words, and this is the only way to crack the hard-capped 5,000x potential. All the entertainment value is basically contained in the bonus round, which puts extra pressure on it to deliver. A lot depends on the number of sticky mystery symbols you rack up, and what upgrade level you reach. It’s not really a super-entertaining feature most of the time though, which makes this release a somewhat disappointing mediocrity.

Pros

  • High value Wild pays 75x for 5-oak
  • FS w/ sticky mystery symbol upgrade system
  • Win up to 5,000x your stake (hard-capped)

Cons

  • No base game features
  •
  • Beware of customizable RTP ranges

Cash Patrol - is another crime-themed release from Pragmatic Play, and it’s a good option if you want a lot more features and action than what the game at hand offers. You can look forward to several bonus rounds, including a money collect feature with 5 possible modifiers, and the potential is a solid 10,500x your stake.

Narcos Mexico - is a volatile and atmospheric branded crime-themed installment from Red Tiger, based on the popular Netflix show.

Flyover supply drops provide wilds and x2 multipliers, and the tense and territorial Cartel Spins feature comes with 2 special symbols and a solid 10,486x potential.

The Last Sundown - is a steampunkish, post-apocalyptic western-style release from Play’n Go, and you get random symbol splits per base game spin. This increases the number of win ways, and up to all 10 symbols can become splitting in the bonus round. This can lead to 18,000x payouts, at best.
