Money Megaways Review

Sometimes a Megaways release is all it takes to put a developer on the map for new players, and this was the case for us with Pixiu Gaming. They don’t have too many slots out there yet, and none of them have climbed very high on our SlotRank system. Money Megaways, which amounts to their debut release with the licensed engine, might just change that, however. It’s a bank vault themed game, of which there are plenty, but few with a retro style presentation like this.

You get the usual dynamic grid experience, with a top reel that can provide a Vault Symbol Upgrade symbol. You can win 3 different fixed jackpots from landing Bitcoin logo scatters, and there is also a Hold & Respin feature to look forward to. The main attraction is the unlimited progressive multiplier bonus round, and the overall max win is 7,003x your stake. It’s not a flawless debut, which is rare to see, but Money Megaways did provide us with a good time at least.

The premium symbols pay between 20 and 1,000x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic.

This allows for new and/or existing symbols to drop down to fill the gaps, and the process repeats for as long as you keep winning. You win by landing matching symbols from the uttermost left to the right on adjacent reels, and the credit card Wild can appear anywhere to step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins.

You can land a special 1x2 sized Vault Symbol on the top horizontal reel only, and it needs to be fully in view to trigger the Symbol Upgrade feature. A random symbol type is then selected, and all instances of that symbol are upgraded to a higher value symbol.

You need at least 4 gold bar scatters in view to trigger the Hold & Respin Bonus, and the triggering scatters become sticky as the rest of the grid is cleared. Only new gold bar scatters and blanks will land during this feature, and you start with 3 respins. Any new scatter that appears becomes sticky as well, and this resets the respins tally each time.

The gold bar scatters come with random cash prizes between 0.05x and 100x your stake, and all sticky gold bar scatters pay when the feature ends.

This happens when you either run out of respins, or manage to fill the whole grid with nothing but sticky scatter prizes.

The Free Spins Bonus Round triggers when you land 4, 5, or 6 free spins scatter symbols anywhere in view, and this awards 8, 10, or 12 free spins, respectively. A global win multiplier that starts at x1 kicks in from the first win, and it increases by +1 per cascading win after that.

The multiplier has no upper limit, and it never resets for as long as the bonus round lasts. You get +4 extra spins from 4 scatters on the same free spin, and +4 on top of that per additional retriggering scatter above the minimum of 4.

The Bitcoin Logo Coin is a Jackpot Coin, and it can land both in the base game and in the free spins round. You need 4, 5, or 6 Bitcoin Jackpot Coins in view to win the silver, gold, or crypto jackpots, respectively, and they pay 50x, 500x, or 5,000x your stake.

Review Summary

We have seen less generic Megaways debut releases to be honest, and the title, Money Megaways, does not exactly come with an aura of mystery surrounding it either. Still, the retro coins and banknotes have their charm, and at least Money Megaways is not as slick, glossy, and superficial as most wealth and money themed releases tend to be. Adding a Bitcoin Jackpot to the mix is also an original touch, and being able to win up to 5,000x out of the blue is never wrong.

We also like that Pixiu have done something original with the top ‘bonus reel’ (as it’s called in the paytable), since you can land the symbol upgrading vault up there. The Hold & Respins feature is fairly standard stuff, and would have benefitted from some extras to spice things up. The free spins round is also similar to what you get in most Megaways installments, and the progressive multiplier system can lead to decent payouts up to 7,003x your stake.

This is a tad below average for this engine, but overall Money Megaways was a pretty enjoyable experience.
