Fortune Factory is one of countless smaller indie studios trying their luck on Microgaming’s Quickfire platform. The Isle of Man-based developer’s biggest hit so far is probably Aliyas Wishes, and we think it might be a bit early in the game to attempt to establish a character based franchise ala Cat Wilde or Lara Croft. You might wanna break through to the mainstream level of recognition first, but hey, that’s only our 2 cents.

Amber Sterling looks like a decent, albeit somewhat passive, dame for the wild adventurer type, but she does give you encouraging action commentary during gameplay. Apparently, the top horizontal “Action Reel” has been trademarked, along with the Blazing Wild Respin feature it can trigger, but we hardly see the point. It doesn’t really come across as something other developers would copy anyway, and similar stuff exists in abundance already.

The golden medallion wild will step in for all regular pay symbols, and it pays the same as the highest value buddha statue symbol. Central to the action is the randomly triggered Action Reel, which sits on the top middle position between 2 statue heads.

It’s basically a horizontal top bonus reel that will open at random times and trigger 1 of 2 features. If the Action Reel displays 1, 2 or 3 flames, these will mark an equal number of positions on the regular reel set.

The Blazing Wild Streak feature is triggered when the Action Reel displays either a 1x, 2x or 3x Respin symbol.

The multiplier symbol remains in place, while you are granted 1 free respin. All marked positions turn into wild symbols on the respin, and the wilds can come with up to 5x multipliers. If more than 1 multiplier wild is involved in a win, the respective multipliers will multiply with each other. What’s more, your total win is also multiplied by the Action Reel multiplier.

You trigger the Jackpot Bonus Game whenever you land 3 bonus scatters anywhere on the 3 middle reels. Miss Sterling steps on a stone mechanism, and the regular reels sink into the ground.

We had a few smaller wins before we triggered the Jackpot Game around 1 minute into the 3-minute highlights video. The marked positions were intact when the reel set re-emerged, and we triggered the Blazing Wild Respin feature right away. We had more luck with the respin feature towards the end though, as the 2x multiplier landed us an okay payout.

Review Summary

The small, independent studio, Fortune Factory, has some decent titles under their belt, but nothing too memorable either. Amber Sterling's Mystic Shrine will hardly make much of a dent anywhere, and it comes across as a somewhat clumsy Cat Wilde wannabe. The animations and action commentary is okay, but we are more referring to the way the features are put together.

A jackpot pick’em game instead of a proper free spins round is one thing, but the whole trademarked Blazing Wild Streak Respin feature is not all that exciting either. The math model is decent enough though, with a 5,000x potential, a higher-than-average RTP combined with high volatility. Unfortunately, the total package just doesn’t add up to a memorable experience.
