Rabcat has created a bright and colorful world in Tropical Wilds, and the Nintendo influence clearly shines through in the videogame-style visual presentation. Crabs with toadstool-looking shells is clearly a tip of the hat to the Mario franchise, and this game is filled to the brim with similar charming and cheeky characters.

Aimed mostly at casual players, you will find a somewhat forgiving math model underneath the hood here. The 96.47 % RTP is a bit above average, and you can expect small/medium wins like pearls on a string in the base game. How you fare in the bonus round however, will depend to some degree on what kind of modifying wild is chosen, and you can look forward to multiplier wilds, walking wilds, cloning wilds and more.

You will land Mystery Boxes during base game play, and these will then transform into 1 of 5 different wilds. All wilds will step in for regular pay symbols, like wilds usually do, and one of the wilds is a regular wild with no extras attached. The 4 others however, are Multiplier Wilds, Duplicate Wilds, Wandering Wilds and Connecting Wilds.

When you land 1, 2 or 3 Multiplier Wilds, it/they will boost your current payout with 2x, 3x or 4x, respectively. These are not regular multiplier wilds however, as they do not need to be part of a winning combination to boost your payout.

The Duplicate Wild might sound self-explanatory, but it comes with an additional twist.

Any instance of this wild on the reels will duplicate itself to another reel position, but not just any reel position. It will always choose a position that maximizes your total payout. When you get a Wandering Wild from the Mystery Box, you trigger the Tornado Spins feature. The Tornado Spins continue as long as at least one Wandering Wild is present on the reels. The Wandering Wild moves randomly around, and might walk off the reels when close to the edge.

Finally, you have the Connecting Wild, and you need at least 2 for this feature to become active.

The path between the 2 Connecting wilds will be filled with more Connecting Wilds, which might lead to plenty of wilds on the screen.

The Wild Free Spins feature is triggered when you land at least 3 scatter symbols anywhere in sight. You get 7, 10 or 15 free spins when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters, respectively, and 1 of the 4 modifying Wilds will be chosen for the bonus round. You can land other wilds too, of course, but you are guaranteed at least one instance of the modifying wild on each free spin. You cannot retrigger the feature or win more free spins.

There is also a progressive jackpot on display above the reels (in some versions of the game at least), and you win this when you land 3 golden € symbols on a payline. You need to play with a stake of at least €1 to win 100 % of the jackpot however. Smaller bets will get you a corresponding percentage of the total jackpot on display, all the way down to 1 % for a €0.01 stake.

It almost goes without saying that Rabcat is targeting casual players with this title, as both the math model and the gameplay points in that direction. Nothing wrong with that, of course, and those who only want to keep things going and have fun will get plenty of that here.

You will hardly see a boring moment in this game, as you keep landing Mystery Box surprises almost all the time. They are not always that useful of course, and you can expect plenty of smaller wins most of the time. The bonus round can seem a bit short-lived at times, but you also have the Wandering Wild free respins as an additional “mini free spins round”. The 3,000x potential is decent enough for this type of game, but more serious gamblers will probably stay away from this one.
