Devil’s Trap Review

The Devil’s Trap sounds a bit more scary than anything this seasonal StakeLogic release can deliver in the form of spooky moments, but the game plays out in a haunted and abandoned fairground. The base game is filled with dead spins mostly, until you finally trigger the Bonus Reel feature. This is the only way to get any features, so you’re basically waiting around for it to happen.

The grid is filled with what is supposed to be spooky and mysterious symbols typical for Halloween slots, but we had a hard time staying awake between feature triggers. Anyway, the bonus reel dishes out smaller cash prizes mostly, and here and there a respin with random wilds or the bonus round. The latter is where you can crack the 10,000x potential, which admittedly is decent for a release like this.

Devil’s Trap Slot Features

The premium symbols pay between 10 and 100 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the pumpkin Wild symbol steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins. The wild can appear anywhere, and wilds pay the same as the top-tier raven symbol if you land pure wild wins.

The Witch Hat bonus symbols trigger a Bonus Reel spin on the first two reels, but only if you land 3 of them on reels 3, 4 and 5. This gives you a cash prize between 2x and 200x your stake, a respin with 3 to 10 randomly placed pumpkin wilds, or the bonus round with 10, 15 or 20 free spins.

The Bonus Round comes with a 6th multiplier reel, and only blanks or multipliers between x2 and x100 will appear on this reel per spin.

The multiplier will boost any win on the same spin, and you can also land witch hat bonus symbols to trigger the bonus reel spin during the bonus round. This is the only way to win extra spins.

Wilds appear stacked 2 or 3 positions in height during the free spins round. If a wild symbol lands on either of the two top rows, a skeleton hand will sometimes pull it downwards so the whole reel becomes wild. This is known as the Nudging Wilds feature.

The Bonus Buy menu is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. The menu comes with 4 options, and these are 10, 15 or 20 free spins for 100x, 250x or 500x your stake, respectively.

There is also a 4th randomized option which costs 225x your stake, and it comes with a 50 %, 30 % and 20 % chance of awarding 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively.

The 200 Spins Devil’s Trap Slot Experience

You get to see mostly dead spins in the base game, so you can safely skip to the 1-minute mark where we purchase the top-tier 20 free spins bonus round. The feature plays out for the remainder of the almost 4-minute highlights video, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

We have seen scarier Halloween slots for sure, and the base game in Stakelogic’s Devil’s Trap is pretty much a snoozefest until the bonus reel triggers. The ghosts in the backdrop look about as engaged as we were after a while of dead spins, and the cash prizes up to 200x aren’t all that in the larger scheme of things.

The respins with random wilds feature is hardly original, but it can deliver okay payouts at times. Up to 2,000x your stake is possible from a base game spin after all, and the 10,000x win cap is therefore only crackable in the bonus round. Multipliers up to x100 can certainly help, but overall this is a seasonal release that will have a hard time reeling anyone in the rest of the year.

Pros

  • Bonus reel w/ cash prizes up to 200x
  • Can also award random wilds respin or FS
  • FS w/ extra reel w/ up to x100 multipliers
  • Win up to 10,000x your stake

Cons

  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges

If you enjoy Devil’s Trap Slot you should also try:

Tricks and Treats - is Red Tiger’s Halloween installment for 2022, and it comes with instant scatter prize treats up to x25 per scatter. Trick multiplier wilds can boost these prizes, and line wins, by x3, and the multiplier accumulates up to x15 in the bonus round.

Halloween Jack - is one of few Halloween installments that has withstood the test of time, and it remains popular all year round. This NetEnt classic comes with a spookier theme than the game at hand, and you get x3 walking multiplier wilds. There are 3 versions of this in the bonus round.

Happy Halloween - is another popular seasonal installment that has managed to transcend the season, so to speak.
