The stated core idea behind this game was to create a seasonal winter slot for all players, without pushing any kind of belief system along with it (like christmas etc). Based on a Scandinavian folklore most have not heard about, Crystal Prince slot comes with simpler visuals than usual from this developer, but this puts the reels more in focus. You trigger the Snowfall feature whenever a winning combo is landed. You will then see a new row of symbols land on top of the 4 standard rows. This goes on as long as you keep landing new winners. Naturally, each extra row you land will also expand the number of winning ways. Here is an overview:

• 6 rows equals 46,656 ways to win

The 8th row on top comes with a frozen Blizzard Seal. If you manage to fill it, you’ll see the Prince fly up there to break the seal and trigger the Blizzard mode.

This adds 1 to 3 wild multipliers (2x and 3x) to the grid, and all winning symbols, wilds, high value symbols and scatters will now become frozen in place. The rest of the symbols are removed, and you get a new cascade dropping from above. This goes on as long as you keep winning.

The Wild Frost bonus round is triggered by landing at least 3 scatters anywhere on the reels.

You get 8, 12, 15 or 20 free spins when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters, respectively. You are now taken up from the frozen lake into a new scenery, and each free spin comes with 1 to 4 wilds or multiplier wilds (2x and 3x) which are added randomly to the grid.

Each win adds a new row to the grid just like in the base game, and landing 2 scatters on the same spin gives you 3 extra free spins. There is no upper limit as to how many spins you can add to your tally here, and multiplier wilds can multiply with each other for potentially massive wins. Just like Seinfeld’s father famously wanted to create a “Festivus for the rest of us” as an alternative to Christmas, Quickspin’s stated goal with Crystal Prince was to create “a winter game for everyone”. There is no doubt that they have succeeded with this ambition, and in a typical Quickspin manner they’ve also managed to squeeze some innovation into the mix.

The baseline “Snowfall mechanic” of adding new rows for each win is cleverly done, and the Blizzard Seal on top gives you something to reach for outside of the bonus round.

The latter is the most important feature, of course, but the Blizzard Mode is great base game counterbalance. Medium to high volatility is just right for this game, as the somewhat rounded edges do not leave any players out in the cold.
