The distance between Crystal Classics and the generic and ultra-mediocre, Greek Legends, which was our last brush with Booming Games, is astronomical. It’s hard to believe the two titles come from the same studio with only weeks between them. Fair enough, Crystal Classics is Booming’s first cluster pays grid slot effort, and we really hope to see more from whatever department conjured up this beauty.

The only real drawback is the somewhat boring and generic title, and the below-average 95.27 % RTP. There are 3 major/premium symbols in this game, and 4 fruit symbol ‘minors’. You need between 5 and 25+ matching symbols in a cluster (horizontally and/or vertically) to win, and 25+ of the top-tier symbols pay 40x, 65x or 100x, respectively. All wins trigger the Cascading Reels mechanic, effectively removing the winning symbols from the 7x7 grid.

Existing symbols will then drop down to fill the gaps, and new symbols will cascade from above to fill the grid completely again.

This process repeats as long as you keep winning, awarding indefinite sequences of repeat wins per paid spin. Each win also triggers the Random Wilds or Multiplier Wilds feature.

The Diamond with the game logo (up in the left corner) will then fire a laser-like beam towards the empty position left behind by a winning cluster, and this generates 1 to 3 diamond wilds in that space. It might fire off a second laser beam also, upgrading one or more of the wilds with a random multiplier of x2, x3 or x5. You will usually get at least 1 wild per distinct cluster win if you land more than one win on the same spin.

The generated diamond wilds disappear when part of a winning combo, but usually at least 1 new wild, or multiplier wild, will be generated from the new win. As is usually the case, the wilds step in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combinations.

If more than one multiplier wild is part of the same winning cluster, the respective multiplier values are added together.

The Bonus Round is triggered when you land at least 4 scatters in the same cascading win sequence. More precisely, you get 10, 15, 20 or 25 free spins, respectively, when you land 4, 5, 6 or 7 scatters in the same sequence. Landing 3+ scatters during the feature awards +5 extra spins.

The bonus round plays out like the base game, but you’re guaranteed at least 1 wild, or multiplier wild, per distinct cluster win. What’s more, the wild multiplier range is expanded to x2, x3, x5, x10, x15, x20, x25, x30, x40, x50, x60, x70, x80, x90 and x100.

This is potential breakthrough material for a productive developer that has yet to ‘hit it out of the park’ with any release. It’s not so much that we haven’t seen the concept of random multiplier wilds in action many times before, but it’s the way Booming has made the feature their own in what amounts to a very thrilling experience.

It’s a joy to see the white laser beam generate up to 3 wilds per cluster win, and with a few multiplier wilds in play you can rack up solid payouts also in the base game. The pace of the gameplay is excellent with the turbo switched on, and with up to x100 multiplier wilds in the bonus round, pretty much anything can happen to the tune of 27,556x your stake. The feature might not trigger all that often (1 in 402.6 spins), but the base game is enjoyable enough to make you forget that.
