With Superstars NetEnt has pulled something similar to Nintendo’s All Star games, as you get to meet 5 of the most iconic and famous NetEnt characters both on the reels and in the bonus round. These are Finn, Gonzo, Lady Pig, Space Wars Brute and the Starburst Octagram. This is a celebration of a game, and you are the missing star that comes late to the party.

The base game is admittedly not the most exciting thing we’ve tried, but the charming characters do liven up the reels with their star power. You start with 3 spins once the bonus round triggers, and the 3+ triggering scatters turn into random multipliers placed on the hold and win grid. The number of spins reset to 3 each time you land at least 1 new multiplier during the feature.

If you landed a dice scatter on reel 5 when the feature triggered, you get to play a board game where dice rolls determine where the token moves next. You can get dice during the bonus round as well, organically or via the features.

This is how you move around the board, and certain game squares award the following features:

• Extra Life - is awarded if you make it all the way around the board, and it gives you a heart life that is used the next time the spin tally reaches zero.

The Wheel Game triggers if the token lands on the wheel square, and it comes with the following prizes: +1 extra dice, +2 extra dice, +1 added to all multiplier prizes, +1 to all blank squares (which increases all multiplier prizes accordingly when the token lands on the such a square), a random feature (Starburst, Finn, Space Wars, Gonzo or Miss Piggy), and a replay of the next bonus feature (if triggered).

If you manage to fill the whole grid with multiplier prizes during the bonus round, you trigger what is known as the Final Game. All the squares on the board are upgraded with values between 25x and 1,000x bar the bottom left and top right corners. These award the dice feature. Everything is carried over into the final game, including replay, hearts and the number of free spins. Non-UK players can purchase the feature for 150x the stake.

We really enjoyed the reunion with the all-star lineup of iconic NetEnt characters, and there is plenty of charm and entertainment contained in this release for sure. They carry with them enough star power to keep the base game somewhat interesting, which is good since there aren’t too many features to keep you glued until the bonus round triggers.

This is one of those games you just have to try for yourself, and you can check the demo version above for starters. The bonus round is filled with so many different elements, modifiers and extra features that it all looks confusing when you read about it. It comes together nicely once you start playing though, and the 4,596x potential is decent enough without really being the main attraction in this star-studded release.
