Foxium has apparently waved a magic wand of their own when they created this follow-up release, as the theatrical, animated magic act elements that made the original Great Albini special has all but disappeared. The Great Albini 2 is far more streamlined, and the mobile adaptation process has not gone over too well for those who prefer larger screens.

This creates the illusion that you couldn’t afford anything but the cheapest back-of-the-theater tickets to the show, but at least the 20,000x potential is 5 times higher than in the first game. The main features are very different as well, as you now get a Money Gem Collect system in the base game. The hold-and-win style Bonus Round is largely determined by how much you manage to boost the total win Albini Multiplier, and the Booster ante bet is helpful in that regard.

You can switch on the Booster ante bet feature between base game spins, and the price you pay is 50 % more than your regular stake per spin. The benefit of the Booster is extra Money Gem symbols and Collect symbols added to the reel strips, and it also increases your chances of landing Lily Extra spin symbols and Albini Multiplier symbols in the bonus round.

The premium symbols pay between 3 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind, and the Wild symbol pays 25x your stake for the same. Of course, the wild symbol also steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combos, and it can appear on all 5 reels.

You can land 3 different Money Gem symbols on reels 1 to 4, and they come with different colors and prize ranges as follows:

You need to land the Collect symbol on reel 5 to actually collect the Money Gem prizes though, and all gems in view are then collected and paid. The Collect symbol can land with a multiplier of x2 to x5 attached, and this multiplier is then applied to the total Money Gem win.

You need 3 scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 to trigger the hold-and-win style Bonus Feature, and you start out with 3 spins.

Only blanks, Money Gems, Lily Extra Spins symbols or Albini Multiplier symbols may land during the feature, and all non-blank symbols reset the spin tally to 3 again. The feature ends when you run out of spins (or fill the screen), and all money gems are then summed up and boosted by the total racked up Albini multiplier.

Only the Money Gems are sticky on the grid, and the total win multiplier is increased by each Albini Multiplier symbol you land. The Albini symbols come with 1x to 5x multipliers, and these values are then added to the total multiplier. The Lily symbols increase the spin reset value by +1 for each symbol you land.

What made the original game stand out was the theatrical magic act animation you got in the bonus round, and not least when the sticky wild reel Lily Respins feature triggered.

These antics have been all but stripped away in this mobile friendly follow-up, and the cramped game area makes you feel like a late ticket buyer that barely got squeezed in at the very back of the theater. The streamlining and handheld adaptation hasn’t really done this sequel any favors in other words.

The Money Gem Collect feature awards okay top-up wins here and there in the base game, but don’t expect anything too exceptional from it most of the time. A decent Collect Multiplier may do some damage on rare occasions, but closing in on the 20,000x potential is most likely to happen in the bonus round. Again, you need to rack up a solid multiplier to make a dent, and many times you will hardly land Albini symbols at all, not to speak of extra spin Lily symbols. The Booster ante bet might be a good idea in that regard, but 50 % extra per spin is not exactly cheap.
