The base game is simple enough in Magic Money Maze, and the retro presentation goes well together with the dead presidents money theme. Full-screen wins up to 2,000x is possible from regular pay symbols, but even more than that can be won from money prize symbols that are collected if you land 5 on a payline. You should expect plenty of dead spins though, so the base game is a bit of a grind.

Some players love board game style bonus rounds, while others don’t, but that’s what you get in Magic Money Maze. The maze-like board game takes you on a cash and multiplier collecting journey, but you need to avoid snakes and scorpions if you want to stay alive long enough to reach the center of the maze. You can land money symbols with values between 0.1x and 1,000x your stake, and they pay 3x or 15x your stake for 3 or 4 of a kind, respectively. Landing 5 of a kind wins with money symbols pay their summed up prize value.

You need 3, 4 or 5 game logo scatters in view to trigger the Magic Money Maze Board Game Bonus Round. This starts you off with 1, 2 or 4 lives, respectively, and the feature plays out on a 7x7 sized board with 49 positions. The gorilla token moves in a clockwise direction around the board, and the number of moves is determined by a dice roll.

The positions are either blank or they contain one of the following:

• Cash - between 0.1x and 1,000x gets collected in the prize pot.
• Arrows - takes you to the next tier closer to the center of the maze.
• Heart - adds a life to your tally.
• Snake or Scorpion - removes a life from your tally.
• Presidents - awards a multiplier of x2, x3 or x10 when you’ve collected 2, 3 or 4, respectively. The multiplier will boost the total win from the feature.

If you make it all the way into the center of the board, all money prizes on the board are upgraded by an x2 multiplier the first time. Make it there multiple times, and the money prizes are boosted by x3, x4, x5 and x10, respectively. The feature goes on until you run out of lives, and non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can purchase the bonus round for 120x the stake. This gives you at least 3 triggering scatters on the spin that follows.

Review Summary

We’ve seen the board game twist in previous installments from Reel Kingdom, and most notably in Snakes and Ladders Megadice, and it's a refreshing touch that you either enjoy or not. The base game gave us plenty of dead spins, but we like that larger cash symbol payouts are possible when you land 5 of a kind.

The soundtrack was enjoyable though, and the same can be said about the retro presentation.

As we’ve already mentioned, it boils down to whether or not you enjoy the board game style bonus round, as Magic Money Maze is hardly worthwhile if you don’t. The feature can go on for a good while with a bit of luck, but it’s frustrating when the token manages to avoid larger cash values or if you get killed by snakes/scorpions early on. The 10,000x potential is solid enough, but you’ll probably need a decent multiplier to close in on it.
