Playson came somewhat late to the Megaways party, but their debut release with the licenced BTG engine, Legend of Cleopatra Megaways, has seen some success. Solar Queen Megaways is a remake of their somewhat successful Solar Queen, and it’s basically the same game upgraded with the dynamic reels experience. The potential, however, is disappointingly below what most players expect from the Megaways brand.

Why Playson didn’t take this opportunity to create a “max win distance” to the original game is beyond us, as 3,874x your stake is almost embarrassingly weak. The Flaming Frames Wild release concept does offer some thrilling base game moments though, which is this games’ obvious strong suit. We’ve seen it all plenty of times before however, including the building multiplier. Overall, it’s a better game than the original, but it just comes across as a bit uninspired and lacking in ambition.

The Anubis, Horus and Solar Queen symbols are the alpha trio in the paytable, and they award between 1.5 and 2 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. The first thing that hit us when we compared this Megaways version to the original Solar Queen, was the feeling that it lacks ambition. First off, all the core features are exactly the same, so you’re basically playing the same game with dynamic reels and up to 7,776 win ways. Playson’s Megaways debut, Legend of Cleopatra Megaways, was held back a bit by a lower than average potential for this engine, and Solar Queen Megaways is even worse in that department.

Being able to squeeze out 3,874x your stake is better than what the original game is capable of, but it’s still well below the 10-20K potential that most players expect from the licenced engine. The Flaming Frames multiplier system is definitely not new, but it’s not used in all that many Megaways releases yet. It makes for a more enjoyable base game, as you get a 10 spins climax/anti-climax cycle that sometimes lead to significant payouts.
