Red Tiger seems to have gone on a copycat spree lately, but this time the rip-off is a tad less obvious than what was the case with Luna Fortuna. Honolulu Nights is very similar to JTG’s Hawaiian Dream, at least when it comes to the bonus features. The math model is different however, and not in a good way.

Visually, this copycat version is superior, but the measly 975x potential is a big let-down combined with medium to high volatility. The features are nicely intertwined, and you can get plenty of free spins via the upgrade feature, but most of the time this leads to only small or mediocre payouts. It’s a decent game for daydreaming and checking out the babes. However, you’re probably better off playing the demo version, cause the payouts you get here will hardly make your holiday dreams come true.

Despite the classic 3-reel setup, there is no shortage of bonus features in Honolulu Nights. You will benefit from a 1x win when you land 3 coconut drink respin symbols on a payline.

This also gives you a respin, and the feature can be triggered up to 4 times in a row.

Each retrigger increases your chances of landing more respin symbols, or the Rush Bonus symbol. On the 4th consecutive respin, you will only land respin symbols or Rush and Super Rush bonus symbols. This increases your chances of triggering the Rush bonus round.

The Rush free spins feature comes in 3 tiers, and you can reach the next level on the final spin only. You trigger the bonus round when you land 3 Rush symbols on a payline, and this gives you 8 free spins. On the final free spin, you can land either Rush or Super Rush symbols on a payline to retrigger or upgrade the feature to the next tier.

The Super Rush bonus round is exactly the same as the Rush bonus round, except that the symbols are “upgraded”.

They don’t increase in value however, they simply turn neon. You get 8 free spins here too, and you might retrigger the feature on the last spin, or upgrade to the Ultimate Rush bonus round.

The Ultimate Rush feature stands out from the other two, as you will now land three different 1x3 Neon Girl symbols only. These are worth 2x to 6x your stake, and you will keep on spinning indefinitely as long as you keep winning. When you land a non-winning spin, you will return to whatever game mode you triggered the Ultimate Rush feature from.

In all instances of the Rush bonus round, you can benefit from a helpful nudge feature on the final spin. If you don’t land any winning combo on the last free spins, a nudge might trigger to change that for you.

Review Summary

Red Tiger has a talent for missing the mark when it comes to the math model, and Honolulu Nights (which borrows heavily from JTG’s Hawaiian Dream) is a perfect example.

This game could have been decent if the volatility was low. Then the 975x potential would have been forgiven, but not as it stands now. The medium to high volatility ruins what could have been a casual daydream to an exotic island, filled with umbrella cocktails and bouncy bikini babes.

Visually, the game is very nicely done however, and it really makes you want to visit Hawaii, or similar exotic places. The beach in the background looks inviting for sure, and we like the dramatic bonus round shift to moonlight party mode. There are plenty of features here, and up to 174 consecutive free spins have been recorded. However, the total win from that was “only” 345x, and the main problem here is really the math model.
