There are a few things I love more than chocolate, and chocolate cake is one of them. I have chocolate in my house all the time. It’s not a secret that I am a baker. But I don’t mean the chocolate I use in baking. I’m referring to little pieces that I can grab here and there whenever I have a sweet tooth or need something after a meal.

I prefer semi-sweet and dark chocolate to milk chocolate or white chocolate. I don’t mean to offend any readers who enjoy white chocolate. It is not my cup of tea. I do not like the taste and only use it when I have to bake something. My husband likes milk chocolate, but I crave the slightly bitter taste of dark chocolate.
This Chocolate Truffle Cake is sure to satisfy the craving of the chocolate lover. The cake is moist and dense, as a proper chocolate cake should be. And the frosting …. is just right. Oh, that frosting! Chocolate heaven! This is a simple recipe, made with chocolate, butter and heavy cream. This is chocolate heaven.
To maximise the amount of chocolate truffle frosting, I cut the cake layers horizontally in half. If you prefer, you can skip this step. However, you will have some frosting leftover.
The cake was decorated classically and, like a truffle. Classic ones are usually dusted with cocoa powder or coconut. Today, the options are endless. To make the cake look simple and elegant, I decided to cover it in beautiful chocolate flakes. It’s not easy to get these – I buy them from a local gourmet store – but good ol’ chocolate Sprinkles work just as well!
This Chocolate Truffle Cake is finished with simple textured dollops of frosting.
