Scrolls of Aphrodite Review

You could say that Pariplay has been experimenting with their ‘Locked Frame’ feature for a while now, but the last one in the series, Gold's Guardian, is the only installment with a somewhat different version of the feature. Scrolls of Aphrodite takes you back to the basic blueprint, and it’s close to being a reskin of Book of Itza.

There is a slight difference in the available RTP range, but other than that you’re in for a very similar ‘ancient civilization’ Locked Frame and Sticky Expanded Wild Respin adventure here. Nothing wrong with that if you’re a fan of the series, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to keep things a bit more varied per installment. Not least since the response so far has been lukewarm.

The Aphrodite wild steps in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos, and she’s also worth 20x your stake for 5 on a payline. This makes her the most valuable symbol in the game, but she pays only for 5-oak, and nothing less. The top-tier Zeus symbol pays 15x your stake for 5 on a payline, in comparison.

Each Aphrodite Wild that lands also leaves behind a circular golden frame that becomes sticky on the relevant position. Whenever a full reel is covered by such Locked Frames, a fully expanded version of the Aphrodite Wild becomes sticky on that reel, and you’re granted 3 sticky wild respins.

The respins tally resets to 3 for every new wild you land, and both the Locked Frames and any new expanded wilds you generate remain frozen in place for the duration of the feature.

The feature ends when you run out of respins, or when the whole screen is filled with expanded sticky wilds. If you win nothing from the Sticky Expanded Wild Respins feature, a 2x consolation prize is awarded.

You need at least 3 scatter symbols in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this awards 12 free spins no matter how many scatters you land. You can trigger the Sticky Expanded Wild Respins feature during the bonus round too, and in fact, you are guaranteed to do so at least once. Locked Frames from the base game are not carried over however, and you cannot retrigger the bonus round.

When the bonus round ends, if you’ve had no organic respins triggers, the reel with most Locked Frames will turn fully wild to trigger the expanded wild respins. If 2 or more reels come with the same amount of Locked Frames, the leftmost reel is chosen to become expanded.

All Sticky Expanded Wild Respins come with a randomly chosen win multiplier of x2 to x8, and a new multiplier is chosen if a new reel turns sticky expanded wild.

Scrolls of Aphrodite is another installment in the ‘Locked Frame’ range from Pariplay, and it follows the same blueprint as predecessors like Faith and Book of Itza. It’s close to being a reskin job in other words, but the math models tend to vary somewhat in this series. You get a decent 5,000x potential in this game, capped at £250,000.

The Greek mythology theme comes across as somewhat generic, although the fully expanded goddess of beauty certainly shines whenever the Sticky Expanded Wild Respins feature is triggered. This feature has the potential to crack the max win by filling the grid with wilds even in the base game, and this becomes even more likely in the bonus round, where you’ll also benefit from a guaranteed trigger with an added x2 to x8 multiplier.

Gold's Guardian - is a Pariplay installment with a somewhat different twist to the Locked Frame feature.

Dragon symbols create said frames, and all adjacent symbols turn wild when a dragon lands inside a framed position. This is taken up a notch in the bonus round, not to speak of the Super version which is awarded for every 6th trigger.
